An award-winning family-owned business based in Derbyshire that has been designing and making unique, hand-crafted furniture for over 25 years. Their range includes both classic and contemporary pieces, all of which can be fully customised by their in-house team.
Although fully remote, we worked closely with the team from Derbyshire. Building out a top level wireframe, to then diving deeper into the detail with the UI design. The core proposition was making sure the new online experience matched the current and very successful offline version.
John Sankey’s heritage
Historically, the business had been reliant on its network of interior design partners and Liberty of London to sell their products. The Covid-19 pandemic put a spotlight on the fragility of relying exclusively on bricks and mortar retail and was something John Sankey was keen to address. We began the process by sketching ideas how we could bring the offline experience to life, digitally.
As part of a team of experienced product, design and technical specialists, we worked alongside the owners and leadership at John Sankey to establish their e-commerce strategy. This exploration led to a completely new web experience which included a furniture customiser. With a range of options to choose from which includes not only fabric but feet, filling and a host of trim options, ensuring an intuitive and simple flow was key. The clever bit, the customiser displays the choices made in realtime on the selected piece of furniture, a best in class experience that allows users to select from a myriad of options for their new furniture, something both trade and private clients can enjoy.
Other product pages
Whilst the e-commerce experience was the primary focus for the new site, we also designed a host of other pages including trade application flows, sign-up, buying guides, journal and gallery pages. Our objective with the design was to keep it clean, minimal and luxurious in feel, allowing John Sankey’s beautifully crafted furniture to really sing.
John Sankey are delighted with the finished site, their digital proposition is now every bit as finely crafted as their beautiful furniture.
The team are currently developing new ranges to support their online presence, alongside digital marketing campaigns and PR activity to drive traffic to the new website. Here’s to another 25 years for this awesome British brand.
